The first episode began with a typical day in a teenage couple’s life – inside a dark and dingy school. Little do the viewers know, the girl’s a raging vampire who feeds on her boyfriend! This scene is emblematic of what Buffy the Vampire Slayer is about — a world where one petite girl wields the power of fighting large menacing monsters lurking in the dark. And as important as that was, Buffy was also specifically important to girls and young women —. She balanced the ability to chop vampire’s heads off and at the same time date cute boys and wear pretty dresses.
Starring teen sensation Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actress threw herself effortlessly into the role of Buffy making it hard to separate the two! From sci-fi, action to teenage drama, the show had layers that engulfed us all.
