“Into every generation, a slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their number. She is the Slayer.” But if you’re one of the few who missed this classic, well it’s never too late!
A show that dominated the 90’s with its mushy storyline, vampires, ghouls, and goblins taking over every episode, and of course our revered superhero Buffy Summers who would put even the Avengers to shame with her killer action chops is back! – Now streaming on STARZPLAY!
Created by Joss Whedon of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fame, Buffy – The Vampire Slayer now over 21 years old was touted as an evergreen TV show, a pinnacle of feminism and genre TV. But the most compelling reason to jump on the Buffy bandwagon is its plain amazingness!
The first episode began with a typical day in a teenage couple’s life – inside a dark and dingy school. Little do the viewers know, the girl’s a raging vampire who feeds on her boyfriend! This scene is emblematic of what Buffy the Vampire Slayer is about — a world where one petite girl wields the power of fighting large menacing monsters lurking in the dark. And as important as that was, Buffy was also specifically important to girls and young women —. She balanced the ability to chop vampire’s heads off and at the same time date cute boys and wear pretty dresses.
Starring teen sensation Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actress threw herself effortlessly into the role of Buffy making it hard to separate the two! From sci-fi, action to teenage drama, the show had layers that engulfed us all.
At its core, Buffy was an ensemble show, that pushed the message that strength is derived in numbers – being alone was never as strong as being surrounded by friends.
