1. Superman: Man of Steel
Superman: Man of Steel launched the DC Comics extended film universe, bringing together Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, and many more in a powerful reboot that traces Superman’s origins. You will see everything from the destruction of the planet Krypton and Clark Kent’s adoptive parents to Superman’s training in the military and alien infiltrations.
2. The Amazing Spiderman
This reboot came out in 2012 and takes a different direction than the 2002-2007 Spiderman trilogy before it. The Amazing Spiderman, starring Andrew Garfield, explores his origins but tackles a villainous, mutated lizard (Rhys Ifans) that is threatening the population with a mutation serum. Expect plenty of action and humor along the way.
3. Robocop
Superhero movies are popular with every generation, and advances in filmmaking have inspired directors and studios to pursue reboots. Robocop is no exception, as this 2014 reboot is based upon stories from films in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The film follows Detroit police officer Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), who is heavily wounded and turned into a cyborg. He fights violent crime in the city while sniffing out corruption within the organization that saved his life, Omni Consumer Products.
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This movie is a must-see for anyone invested in the Marvel universe, but it is also a great stand-alone film. It is a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, and follows the adventures of Captain America (Chris Evans) and an all-star ensemble cast. The plot revolves around deceit and conspiracy, as our heroes eventually come face-to-face with an unknown assassin known as the Winter Soldier.
5. Hellboy
The character of Hellboy, played by Ron Perlman, has much different looks and origins than any other superhero on this list. Hellboy is a demon summoned from Hell who is ultimately found by the Allied Forces and raised as a normal boy. However, the character has bright red skin, a large stone arm, and eventually files off his two large horns. The film follows Hellboy as he investigates worldwide for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD).
