It’s reigning Superheroes on STARZPLAY!

Superhero stories have been a part of pop culture for generations to come. Not restricted to print media only, there have been several adaptations across different mediums however screen adaptations by far are the most popular destination along with the comic books of course. Currently, we’re living in times where superhero mania is at an all-time high!

Marvel and DC continue to announce new projects for their cinematic universes, including other companies whether it’s adapting an existing property or launching original content.

So, if you’re looking to have a superhero movie marathon while you’re stuck inside, we’ve got you covered! Scroll away –

  1. Avengers: Infinity War: “Infinity War” is the definition of a cultural moment. For weeks, even months, after the film premiered, people were talking about the story and the cliff-hanger it left us with. “Infinity War” is the beginning of a conclusion to a story 20 films and 10 years in the making, combining all our favourite superheroes, from the original Avengers to the Guardians of the Galaxy, to new faves like Black Panther and Ant-Man, and it managed to do it in a satisfying way. Countless memes and pop culture phenomena that resonate even till today, Avengers: Infinity War changed the face of superhero cinema.
  • Black Panther: The first superhero movie to ever receive an Oscar Best Picture nomination, Black Panther is a blockbuster representation of diversity in Hollywood. However, even when you separate the movie from its historical importance, Black Panther’s a thrilling amalgamation that oozes with director Ryan Coogler’s expertise! Featuring an ensemble star-cast including the later actor Chadwick Boseman and a stellar futuristic setting, Black Panther is a mix of warmth and humanity. After being introduced in Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa returned less than two years later for his first solo adventure, during which time we get a birds-eye view of the kingdom of Wakanda which also feels alien thanks to its advanced technology!
  • The Dark Knight trilogy: Christopher Nolan’s dark and gritty reimagining of this superhero classic had fans and viewers in awe from the day it was launched. Regular binge sessions with quotes being used in real life – “What are you? I’m Batman” or of course– “Why so serious” mouthed by the infamous Joker. It pushed great storytelling, direction, and award-worthy performances to the forefront at a time where the genre was dying. Under Christopher Nolan’s guidance, the trilogy grossed over $2.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, a rather uncommon practice at Academy Award ceremonies considering superhero movies were not given as much prominence then.
  • Deadpool: Not your average hero – He’s not average but he isn’t the conventional superhero either. Edgy. Not Ordinary. Funny and sometimes so irrational, Deadpool is a break away from typical Marvel heroes. Deadpool knows he is in a movie and often breaks off from the action to critique the plot, casting choices, and budget – weird, funny and brutal! Ryan Reynolds brings a quirk and charm to this lovable character that no actor could’ve accomplished. With a cool soundtrack of the ’70s and ’80s classics, yes – loads of violence, sometimes the story is so bizarre it baffles you, but it also leaves you in splits. Deadpool is brash yet harbours a strong streak of riotousness which makes him one of the coolest and most unique heroes in the Marvel cinematic universe.
