Who doesn’t love a good crime drama? The suspense, the mystery, the romantic tension; all of it keeps us coming back for more week after week. But even we will admit, the formula gets a bit stale after a while. Thankfully, the CW has delivered us beastly romantic drama that cuts through the routine with razor sharp claws. There are so many compelling reasons to dive head first into this gritty production that we simply couldn’t list them all, so here are the top 5.
Major Girl Power
Any cop drama with a solid partnership is going to be awesome. Throw a woman in as a partner and everything gets real interesting real fast. But two women? Priceless. Cat and her partner Tess share an incredible, cooperative bond that is rarely seen on screen, and their collective strength makes this a partnership worth rooting for.
Characters over Shock Factor
Most stories centered in crime and police work, or some kind of science fiction scenario, tend to get so wrapped up in those formulas that they miss out on what the audience really wants: good characters. Luckily for us, the script for Beauty and the Beast is lovingly written by two talented authors who brought us shows like Brothers & Sisters and Everwood: shows that are ALL about the characters. So fear not, you won’t be falling asleep over boring architypes in this series.
Talented Cast
The story and plot on BATB is so solid that it almost doesn’t need good actors to portray it (almost). So add in an incredible cast with emotional depth and range and you’ve got a show that has you on the edge of your seat and crawling back for more.
Intriguing Secret
The major premise of the show is maintaining Vincent’s beastly secret. Every case, every friendship puts him in danger, and this gripping obstacle gives the whole show a sense of urgency and tension that makes for incredible drama.
The Beautiful People
We hate to be “that guy,” but every show on the CW comes with a huge bonus: a beautiful cast! Every single actor, from the major roles to the insignificant ones, is blatantly cast as eye candy for the viewers, and Beauty and the Beast is no exception. And you know what, we don’t mind one bit!
Now that the first three seasons are on STARZPlay, Beauty and the Beast should definitely be bumped to the top of your must watch list. With interesting characters, a captivating story and plot-line, and mystery for days, Beauty and the Beast just might be our new favorite crime drama on TV.
